Well gang, colder weather is here which means it’s time for long sleeves, pants, and layers! Figuring out what to wear for winter running can be confusing! So, here are a few ground rules:

1. COTTON IS THE ENEMY! Never ever ever reach for anything with cotton. You want fabrics that are sweat wicking to help you stay dry and warm.

2. Decide if you like a tighter fit or a looser fit. The key to winter running is to keep heat close to your body. So if you like a looser fit and it’s close to or below freezing, make sure you have a tight base layer underneath a looser fitting top.

3. Everyone has a different relationship to the cold. So while a winter running guide is a good jumping off point, you need to figure out what you like to run in. A good rule of thumb, you can always ditch layers and tie them around your waist but if you’re cold on a run, you will stay cold if you don’t wear enough layers. But if it’s freezing or below freezing, AS LITTLE EXPOSED SKIN AS POSSIBLE.

THIS is my favorite long sleeve on the list. Focus your attention to the hands. NOT ONLY can you wear it like a long sleeve, but those hands flip over to mittens! GENIUS! And the fabric is light yet keeps you super warm. I love this long sleeve.

Comfortable, sleek, and affordable. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and aren’t sure what to get, start with this long sleeve here. It’s a great basic staple. AND THUMB HOLES. Bless the thumb holes.
